Unique Cookies

I just had to share this with all my foodie fans. A friend emailed me these pictures and I was really bowled over by how cute these cookies are. Tell me, are these unique or are these unique?

My cupcake expert friend has just informed me that they are iced cookies which are decorated with royal icing…….a tad too sweet for the little ones. So, I’d say go for these cute cupcakes that she makes instead. Adorable - I’m a HUGE fan!

China Cuisine From Shanghai Renjia Cafe

src

I’m sure you noticed that I used the words “CHINA Cuisine” instead of “Chinese Cuisine”. It’s because this eatery caters to dishes from China which is different in taste though cooking style may be similar.

The outlet is called Shanghai Renjia Cafe, located at Jalan Keretapi (behind Bormill estate). When loosely transferred , it means “Shanghai People’s Family Cafe”. I quite like the setting of the place but I would not say the same about the food. Perhaps it is because I personally find China Cuisine less tasty when compared to our local Chinese Cuisines.

One unique fact about the “Xiao Loong Pau” or “Small Steam Bun” that we ordered is that it contains a lot of “juice” from the meat in the Pau. If you look at the picture below, you will notice that there’s a hole/outlet on top. The correct way to eat the Pau is to suck out the juice from the hole until dry. Then, you enjoy the rest.

Here’s my rating:

Sarawak Laksa - From Chopstick

Sarawak Laksa From Chopstick

I would not be able to call myself a Sarawakian if I don’t introduce Sarawak Laksa to you *grins* It’s one of my favourite breakfast and years ago, I would have it for breakfast and then again for lunch on the same day!

Sarawak Laksa is different from the regular curry laksa as the soup contains no curry in its ingredient at all. Instead, it has a base of Sambal belacan, sour tamarind, garlic, galangal, lemon grass and coconut milk, topped with bean sprouts, omelette strips, chicken strips, prawns and fresh coriander.  Lime and belacan is served separately and is optional.

There are many shops that sell Sarawak Laksa which I consider delicious and the one pictured above is from Chopstick at Jalan Pending, Kuching. Price range from RM3.50 for a regular bowl.

My rating for Chopstick’s Sarawak Laksa is 3 out of 5. I will be adding more recommendation on where you can find delicious Sarawak Laksa, so stay tuned!

Hong Yuan Kitchen Review

dsc02505

Located at Jalan Tun Jugah, within Premier 101,Kuching,  this is a non halal Chinese Restaurant. I’ve eaten here a couple of times but there are limited dishes in the menu and if it is a peak period, I would not recommend going there as when the resturant is full, it can be quite cramped.

My ratings:

FOOD - 6 out of 10

ENVIRONMENT - 6 out of 10

SERVICE - 5 out of 10

Here’s a look at some of the dishes we ordered:
