With the recent implementation of GST, the best action is to practice frugality. So, I decided to make bread pudding out of the stale bread which I had in the refrigerator. The rest of the ingredients were readily available in my pantry. It was my first attempt and while presentation was not great, the taste was A-mazing. It was fluffy, buttery, slightly crispy on top while moist and rich at the bottom. Honestly speaking, I could finish the whole portion myself but it was meant for the kids’ breakfast.

The recipe serves 2-3 person

  • 3 slices white bread (including crust), cut into cubes
  • 25g butter
  • 1 egg
  • 30g 20g white sugar
  • 220ml milk

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 190 degrees C OR 375 degrees F.
  2. In a bowl, combine bread cubes and butter. Mix well and transfer to a baking dish or pan.
  3. Beat the egg and stir in sugar until dissolved. Then, whisk in the milk.
  4. Pour mixture over bread cubes and let it soak for at least 10 mins.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 mins depending on the texture you prefer. I like the crust to be a bit crispy so prefer to bake it longer. Insert a toothpick into the center and if if comes out clean, then it’s done.
