It’s been quite challenging transitioning from a full time worker to a part time one, at least that’s what I call myself. I’m currently working about 4 hours a day at the office and the rest of the time, I’m ferrying the kids and doing house chores. I would like to think of the positive side of it as I have more flexibility in terms of managing things at home and if there’s an emergency like one of the kids being sick, I will always be around. What is equally important to me with the current arrangement is that I still get to use my office attires and stay in touch with the working world. Lol.

Having said that, I cannot deny that I have to manage the household budget more efficiently as there are more expenses since we are no longer covered for certain expenses, like medical, dental, my handphone as well as internet bills. Though I’m not someone who has been to culinary Schools in Virginia, it does not mean I can’t whip up a decent meal, so yes, I have been cooking more to eliminate the cost of eating out.  I do occasionally run out of ideas on what to cook because the kids can be quite picker eaters and both have different taste when it comes to food.

Other than that, some colleagues and I have drifted apart but that’s a reality in life that I have learned to accept. When we have nothing in common other than working in the same company, there’s nothing much to talk about and no reason to stay in touch. However, the ones with whom I have forged a close friendship, will still call me to chat once in a while.

If you ask me whether it was worth sacrificing the salary and perks of working full time  for what I am doing now, I will tell you that it is an extremely difficult question to answer. During the exit interview, my former boss actually told me that if I did not have a few millions in my account, there was no way I would do this. He doubted that I was willing to make this sacrifice. I looked him in the eye and confidently told him that I did not have even a million in my account but I was resigning anyway…..
